An SFX Story

If you don’t know by now, I’ll tell ya… I’m a makeup instructor. One of my favorite things to teach is Special Effects Makeup. The reason I love teaching this subject is because to me it is what I think makeup is, which to me is; the magic of transformation! Transformation can be seen in simple day to day makeup, but when you use Special FX you can completely change a person into someone else like magic.. And I love that!

This week I’ve been teaching SFX Makeup, and I wanted to share some of the fun products
I work with:
  • We use the very exotic tissue paper..what?!?! Yes we use this with latex and create creepy skin.
  • Sponges (non latex) these sponges are essential to use with liquid latex because the liquid latex won’t eat them.
  • Stipple sponge.. we use these to create scrapes and other cool effects.
  • Q tips, from cleaning edges to adding color, these bad boys are useful.
  • Liquid latex will be your best friend (if you aren’t allergic) you can build and rip and with this product to create realistic skin.
  • Liquid blood is the best finishing touch to make a wound, burn, cut and flesh eating zombie look realistic.
  •  Black creme color. I use this to give depth.
  • My favorite product to use is 3rd degree. This is a silicone 2 part product. When combined you have ten minutes to mold and shape into what you want it to be and it harden that way.
  • Another favorite not shown here,  is thick blood. It’s a gel like blood with many uses.

Clown Tutorial

Cheshire Cat inspired makeup look

Hello Beauty addicts!!
For my second Halloween makeup look teamed up with my friend and co-worker Karla.
She’s an amazing artist who is looking to start a YouTube  channel, so we did this look to get her
started.
We created this look using Mehron paradise cake makeup, this is a makeup that you activate with water. the trick is to get a consistency of pancake batter… lol… yes… wet but not liquidy, that would give you a better coverage and it’s easier to blend!
However if  you don’t have these products, you can always try to recreate it with eye shadows, cream colors or even eye liners!
have fun! if you try this look tag us on instagram i’m @beautybyshaq and she is @_kgmakeup

Half Human Half Reptile Makeup (tutorial at the end)

Halloween is around the corner and that can only mean one thing…. it’s makeup time!!
For my first look i decided to recreate this amazing reptile look that i found on Makeupbya20something .
To recreate the look I used several products and I know you all want to know so here is a list of the products I used and ones that you could use:
Contact lenses: I bought mine in a hair store! Sorry! but there are many website where you can find them.
Body Lotion or Vaseline : I used Lancomes Nutrix Royal, but any cream would do!
Face and Body Wax: I used Cinema Secret but you can use any molding wax (they come in some Halloween makeup kits)
Liquid Latex: I used Spirits Halloweens own latex.. but againg you can find it anywhere now.
Makeup sponge: I used a pack from cvs
Face Paint: I used Mehron AQ. you can use any cream makeup and get the same effect. $1 at Walmart
Black and Green Shimmer Eyeshadow: I used Matte Elite but they are discontinued. Any Eye shadow will do.
Castor Seal (optional): Mehron caster seal. I used this to make it easier, but it’s not necessary.
Powder: I used Ben Nye Banana powder, but any powder will do.
Foundation:  I used My own brand (Beauty By Shaq Cosmetics Coming soon. ) Any foundation with good coverage will do.
Bruise Wheel: I used Mehron bruise wheel. but you can also use the cream makeup instead.
Blood: I’m Using Thick Blood from Graftobian and Stage Blood from Mehron, you can use Gel blood and
vampire blood and they will do the same.
Fangs: I bought them at walmart
Eyeliner: Ofra Cosmetics (best eyeliner ever) any black eyeliner will do.
The rest is : Lipstick, and eyelashes and you can use your choice.

so many events so little time!! What a rush!!

Hello Beauty Addicts!! Hope this November finds you in good standings and Happy moments!!

October was a crazy month for me! Activities with no end!
I’m so glad it’s over, but then again I kinda miss the fast paced, crazy work life….

As many of you may know, I’m a make up instructor at a beauty school, so needless to say, when October rolls around, everyone wants a piece of me or at least an extra hour of my class, because everyone wants to know how to work with special fx and how to create great looks for their parties and outings, not to mention We participate in different events as a school and this year we had 3 hunted houses back to back.
 I Love it!

The month started with my students and I working on the movie set for the movie “The Shift” so I had my students audition to be makeup artist and then I trained them, and then we went on to shoot the
movie for a couple of days.

After that I started my FX classes, which were full every day, 3 times a day!
so that’s crazy!

Then I started training them to work in the hunted house. I have teams of 20 students and 3 hunted houses, which had several meeting and I had to get together a list of supply’s for each and for some I had to go find the supplies my self! Then came time for me to split my self in 3! LOL I managed and it was great!!
Then I couldn’t forget about my youtube family so I had to film some Halloween tutorial, and in the mist of it all I also did a contest! LOL!! I’m crazy!
I won’t complain, I love every minute of this fast paced make up artist life!
Now i’m back to the regularly schedule program! LOL.. Teaching and doing Jobs in the weekend, and Filming my tutorial and writing my blog and maintaining my Facebook page!…. Never a dull moment! Oh and don’t forget trying to squeeze personal life in there some where…
Just Kidding! I squeeze everything else in to fit into this! My son and my relationship with God are my Life! Everything else is a plus!
I wanted to leave you with some great Pictures of all the events I Worked on during the month of October and Of course  the great Halloween tutorial I created!!
Happy Zombie dreams until next time Beauty Addicts!!!
